Born in Jamaica in the year 1981 to parents Iva and Vincent Hunter in little district called Lewis Store my childhood years are filled with fond memories. I began school at an early age since my mother was a teacher at Highgate Hall Age Primary in Highgate, St. Mary and I was drawn to music as my dad had a small sound system that would fill the air with Bob Marleys albums every Sunday evening after church. Successfully passing my Common Entrance Examination in 1992 I moved on to St. Mary High School then subsequently to Marymount Business College and pursued additional Business Courses. Read More...

Angel Within us!

It was my usually Wednesday morning but this time without the kids. I woke up got ready for work then went to the garden to feed my orchids then I got in my car to start my 30min drive or maybe an hour depending on traffic to get to the office.

Just before I pulled out the drive way I updated my facebook status with a thought -

“You can and you will!.End of story. I don't keep loser friends????. Good morning..

This was at 7:07am. Phone tucked away I proceeded work. As I made my way to work along a busy thoroughfare in a long line of traffic I unknowingly found my angel within.

Traffic was moving slowly in the left lane heading into the city. It is the usual practice for motorist to undertake the line of traffic on that stretch of road so occasional I would see them “fly” pass while myself and other decent road users wait patiently on the traffic to get moving.

My windows were closed as usual and the sweet sound of soca music blared within my car. I was feeling nice, I loved the vibes….. In a flash I notice a little boy few metres up the road. I perked up over my steering wheel. He was not older than 8 or 9 yrs of age. He was waiting to run across the road from the opposite side of the traffic. Yes run and his feet were angled to take off. As soon as he cleared the right lane and stood in the middle of the road he looked at the still traffic and from his body movement I could tell he was about to run across the left lane also.

A quick glance in my side mirror and I saw a white car speeding, undertaking the line of traffic and was approximately two cars behind. Since my kids were not in the car I Immediately swung the front of my car on the soft shoulder and this forced the driver to come to a halt. Just as he stopped I saw the little figure jumped up on the side walk looked back to see what the noise was all about (Screeching tyres) and continued walking.

Unknowingly to this little boy he was saved from being hit on the soft shoulder. He thought it was safe to run across noting the traffic was not moving. . This morning another mother would be in mourning over her child who could have died from this impact. As for my “Betsy” (car), it is ok.. it was a near hit , but not a scratch to my vehicle. THANK YOU LORD!

Initially the driver was angry and honking but when I wound down my window and pointed on the little boy on the side walk he placed his head in the palms of his hands. I pulled back in traffic to continue my journey. The driver of the white car pulled up next to me continuously honked his horn.. I was not in the mood to argue. He continued to honk motioning for me to wind down my window. Reluctantly I did when the traffic stopped moving once again and turned own my music. He said “ Miss, Thank you.. mi see prison before mi eyes. Miss a who sen yuh fi save me? Miss look how you just block me so mi no lick the boy. Miss Thank you and to that little boy, you save him and you save me. Thank you!” I nodded and told him he was welcomed and urged him to use the road properly and with caution and to always be on the lookout for kids who were trying to make their way to school safely. He honked, put on his indicator and I with a smile I gave him a place in the traffic in front of my car. Time of incident 7:39 a.m.

Now at work, thinking about it, I am trembling like a leaf. What if he had hit my car and I had gotten badly injured?

What if?

What if?

What if?

So many things could have gone wrong but it didn't.. so shhhh to the what if thoughts in my thoughtsss.. I need some coffee to calm my nerves.

I could and I did! End of story

My inner angel came out this morning and I am humbled that my action resulted in saving a life.

"I believe that within us there is an angel and that if we spend more time looking out and after others we would see the angel within and in each other". Dee Hunt

So Please, I am appealing to all motorist, please use the roadways as they were intended to be used especially as we approach the Holiday Season. Please be patient as you wait in traffic. Do not undertake or over take unecessarily. Drive good.
